Principal Message 2020-2021

Litchfield Principal Message
Posted on 08/05/2020

Welcome to Litchfield Community Learning Center, an IB World School.  As an IB World School, our mission is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people through high quality education for a better world. Using the IB Learner Profile Traits, we nurture students to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.  These Learner Profile Traits are incorporated into our everyday classroom routines.  Our students are challenged to learn by thinking critically, expressing creativity, participating in interdisciplinary units, engaging in real-life service learning experiences, and reflecting on their learning.

I realize there is a lot of uncertainty as we enter the 2020-21 school year.  We will begin the year virtually for the first nine weeks.  At that point, we will reevaluate our COVID-19 situation and determine the best option for educating our students for the rest of the semester.  Please be sure to visit the akronschools.com website and click on the reopen link to keep up with updates to our learning plans.

Please know that even though we are not with our students face-to-face, we are still committed to providing a well-rounded experience for our students.  We are committed to meeting their academic needs in a virtual environment, as well as supporting them through their social/emotional development.  Teachers will be participating in professional development to ensure that we are effectively meeting the needs of our students during virtual learning.  We will embrace our IB philosophy throughout our learning experiences to empower our students to become life-long learners.

We encourage parents to assist in helping your student be successful in middle school. This can be done by talking about taking positive risks, learning from mistakes and recovering from them, how to collaborate with others in a positive manner, setting goals, and having high expectations for themselves. Whether students are face-to-face or virtual, it is important for educators and parents to communicate and collaborate to support the growth of our students.  We encourage and welcome parental involvement as we prepare our middle school students to embark on their next journey through the College and Career Academies in high school.

We are looking forward to a successful school year with our IB learners!
