Heart Work Pays Off
IB sixth grade students know cardio
Seven students from Litchfield CLC made quite an impression on the Akron School Board at its February 25 meeting.  Students from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme have been studying the heart, its functions, cardiac care, emergency treatment and more as part of a class project.
The board listened as each student presented a different aspect of what each has learned in the Heart Works Pays Off project and then made a request of the board to help them obtain a portable AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for field trips and athletic events.  Students explained to board members that Litchfield has two AEDs, but neither is portable.  AEDs apply electricity to stop heart arrhythmia and allow the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.
Board members agreed to continue the discussion about ways they could obtain a life saving, portable AED.
